So, you all know by now various digital versions of my book are available on Smashwords right now, and some of you may be a little wary of using a service that is new to you.
First off, don’t be scared! Smashwords is all kinds of awesome. It offers different e-forms of books DRM-free, which means you can download it as many times as you want, to all your different devices. All you have to do is sign up for a free Smashwords account (like, remember when you signed up for Amazon? Neither do I.), then look for my book by name, and click “Purchase A Copy.”
Go through all your buying motions, and then you’ll get to pick a format for the book, which will then be sent to you via e-mail. Choosing a file-type is the only slightly tricky part.
If you hover over the different file formats presented (.mobi, .epub, etc.) then a list of devices the file format is good for will appear. But for a quick pick, I’ll demystify your decision for the most common devices below:
Choose the .EPUB file for iBooks, Nook, Kobo, Sony readers and most tablet readers.
Choose the .MOBI file for Kindle readers.
When the email from Smashwords comes, when you download the file, your device will open it in the appropriate application.
Easy-peasy! So go ahead and wade on in to Smashwords. It’s a great place to find new, indie stuff to read, at low prices.
